It was a great joy to give the world premiere of Johanna Doderer’s piano concerto BELTANE – Bright Fire at the Vienna Musikverein together with the Wiener Concert-Verein. Under the direction of the acclaimed Slovenian conductor Živa Ploj Peršuh, who stepped in at very short notice, the evening became a truly memorable musical experience. Written especially for me and developed in close collaboration with the composer, the highly virtuosic three-movement concerto unfolds from pulsating soundscapes and shimmering textures to a rhythmically charged finale inspired by the Celtic festival of Beltane. As Johanna Doderer describes it, BELTANE is a work of “bright fire” — full of energy, vitality, and musical intensity.
